#RunningInSquares 12th Jan – 14km, 1⛰️, 1📍& 8⊞s
Back to back snow days – what more could you want? Busier trails today that I could actually run.
Distance: 14km. New squares: 8. New peaks: 1. New Trigs: 1.

Looking back over Greenfield to Alderman’s. SD9903.

Climbing up Alphin felt a little like Everest today. Such lovely conditions brought a queue of people out. SD9902.

Alphin Pike in SE0002 ticks off another peak, and a trig. I love the cairn up here that is built to shelter walkers from the usual prevailing westerlies.

Heading down the back of Alphin I took a detour up ‘Iron Tongue’ to tick off SE0001.

I love this (presumably ancient) bit of oak woodland at the back of Carrbrook. This was ravaged somewhat last year when a small tornado tore through the local area.

Footpath sign below Buckton Vale Quarry in SD9801.

I love the old roads that hug the hillsides around us. Prior to canals and then the train coming through the valley bottoms these winding roads were all that joined the many small hamlets. SD9802.

Some awesome highland cattle grazing in SD9803, with Wharmton Tower in the distance.
