#RunningInSquares 25th Jan – 14km 6 new squares

A short leg stretcher after the long one the day before. Local trip around Dovestones. Ticking off some local squares so that I have a few less photos to take later in the Spring when I’m completing the Saddleworth 15 Res’s ultra. It’s going to be a long day out and I don’t want to have to remember quite so many squares/photos that day!

Distance: 14km. New squares: 6.

There are 3 reservoirs in this valley. This is the view across Yeoman Hey Reservoir looking at Ashway Moss, SE0204.

A bit further up the valley, a look over the spillway over Greenfield Reservoir. These two reservoirs were built around 1870. SE0205.

At the top of Greenfield Reservoir looking up at ‘The Trinacle’. These rocks are a favourite Insta photo spot now, and becoming the bane of the Mountain Rescue as the walk up to them is not as easy as many seem to think. SE0305.

The whole Dovestones area is popular (too much so parking wise) with people across the area for walks. It was pretty busy for a damp and chilly January Sunday. SE0203.

Looking over Dove Stone Reservoir (built 1968) at the sailing centre and a line of sheep on the hillside, they’d clearly just had some feed put out for them as they were lined up perfectly. SE0103.

Below the reservoirs in the woods are a couple of industrial sites. Robert Fletchers Paper Mill is in the process of being largely demolished. SE0003.
